Welcome to RM64 Artists Record

This is your go-to-place to find out what’s happening with the RM64 Artists Record Project. The artists hail from cities as diverse as New York and Huntington, West Virginia - follow them as they make and create music. Each band will document their journey in words and pictures - and in their own inimitable style - as they tackle individual musical world domination!

The making of…

As promised, here’s a little footage of us pressing our CD. We decided to do the first 100 copies ourselves. They are now sold out, but we’ve got a new batch of professionally-pressed bad boys coming in this week. Also, our EP is finally on iTunes as well!

How to make a record Pt. 7

Posted by Bud Carroll

Hello Internets,

I’m sorry I took the money,…I’m NOT sorry I took the money. Nothing much new, just working on new music all the time. I’m really sick right now, and have no patients for explanations.

Enjoy how to make a record # 7, or don’t.

Peace.
Bud

John Asks Questions

Posted by All Wrong & the Plans Change

Hello internet. This is a little video of the deep things that get discussed before we commence to rocking. Essentially, this is our preparatory ritual if you will. Try to wrap your head around this stuff. It’s really relevant and informative stuff. Also, I made risotto last night and drank a lot of wine with my friends. This doesn’t happen often. I also am late for work right now. This happens very often.

You’ve been hit by, you’ve been struck by… The Narrative?!

Posted by The Narrative

You mind if I do a J?

I’ve been learning the bass line to “I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5, which isn’t the most difficult bass line in the world, but is super duper nasty.

It’s interesting how learning to a play a song on an instrument can create new love or re-invented love for that song.  I’ve probably heard “I Want You Back” over a hundred times in my life, and always dug it, but never grooved so hard to it while listening.  It’s a completely new found love for a song I’ve always loved, and has inspired me to go grab the entire Jackson 5 and Michael Jackson catalogue.

Another way to re-discover music you’ve known and loved before:  Don’t listen to it for multiple years and then come back to it.  Not just because sometimes it’s good to take a break from the music you really love, but also because you’ll be a totally different person when you come back around to it, and you’ll benefit from that new listening experience.  I haven’t listened to Michael Jackson (and I mean really listened – like a dedicated kind of listening where you’re married to it for better or for worse) since I was about 7 years old and was rocking my “Black or White” cassette over and over.

One of these days I’ll get back to Sublime, who guided the better part of ages 13-20 for me… but for now, Michael will do just fine.

Rabbits in my life

Posted by All Wrong & the Plans Change

speedy rabbitSo I guess it’s time I say something about our music, band, goings – ons. After recently breaking with our manager we have begun yet another  new chapter…or way of doing things. Any band that is trying to do something with their music other than get free drink tickets knows it can feel like one step forward, 3 flights of barrel roll backwards down the stairs back. Drink in hand, upside down, underwear showing…in front of the only person you actually might have a crush on. Amy and I have been through this sort of reorganization several times. And we always find ourselves ending each cycle, and beginning a new with a sort of FUCK everybody attitude. And then when we put our manner hats back on, what we mean to say is “O.k., I will do it myself.”

So, in sum..we have decided to release what was our full length album (finished over a YEAR ago) as 2 EP’s. Two reasons. One, people have little attention span for entire albums these days, and Two..we will give one away for free to hopefully get people interested in hearing the rest. Both will be on itunes for those lovers of music that insist on buying it to support artists. …those people exist. And you should email them THANK YOU!

O.k. back to the doing it yourself part. I made like 10 potential covers to these soon to be released EP’s because waiting on other people for artwork entails hand holding, favor asking, waiting, and potential ego bruising. This is the most light hearted of them ..as I thought a cute bunny might make the not so cute content of said EP a little more apt to be taken with a sense of humor. Another idea is me and Amy toothless in the back of a pick up truck. See what happens when you leave us alone to make decisions?

Yeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     !!!   !

An update from the northwest

Well. We’re making some progress. Slowly but surely.

A week and a half ago we drove up here to Seattle w/ a goal in mind of finishing the tracking for a pair of releases we’d like to crank out this year. We didn’t achieve that goal completely, but we made some real headway. Encountered a few curve balls.  Some led to cool things, some led to not-cool things.  But as the old saying goes, that’s the nature of the curve ball. Continue Reading »

Know Your Strengths (or Why SXSW is Irrelevant in 2010)

Posted by The Eastern Sea

The biggest advice I could give to anyone trying to do anything (yeah, I know…really broad) is to know your strengths. I’ve said this many times to my friends, my family, my fellow students, etc… who were in one way or another in need of help or advice. This time around, I say “know your strengths” to a group of people who have never asked me for words of wisdom and probably never will, but I feel inclined to give it anyway.

To be specific, my audience is the city of Austin, a little quirky nook in the heart of Texas with a local music industry that, while conjuring up images of vastness and notoriety, oftentimes falls short of its pompous nickname, “The Live Music Capital of the World.” It has become very clear over the past few years that unless the city can either readjust its priorities or be honest with itself, it deserves, sadly, to be stripped of that, now empty, title. In my spare time

Posted by All Wrong & the Plans Change

IMG_6380-1In my spare time I have been taking some pictures with one of my best friends who is also an amazing artist. Gonzalo Papantonakis (seemusic.org) He paints a lot of things inspired by music and musicians. Not the least of which is my recent rabbit transformation. This will end up in a beautiful painting when I least expect it. This photo shoot was inspired by a recent trip to the 99 cent store when I was looking for hangers. Although I did not find said hangers I did happen to find myself in the middle of easter world 99 cent style. There were bunny snow globes, bunny napkins, paper center pieces and bunny bowling. But, clearly I made the right choice.

Unfortunately, this mask does not come off and after 24 hours you disappear into a dark grass lined hole where you are surrounded by miniature furniture. A table with a dim lamp casts a shadow onto a small leather bound book. The title of which is “Do you know where you are?”

I plan to make music here.
