Good evening, folks. It’s been a while. It’s been a while, and I apologize. I suppose we should catch up, like the old friends we are?
At about 3am last night we finished mixing the EP we’ll be releasing in June. We were mixing under conditions that aren’t ideal, but so it goes for the unsigned band, right? The crux of the problem being that I am here in Salt Lake City and Shawn (engineer, mix-master, guru) is in Seattle. Now thank god for the internet, but sometimes the internet is slow! So, basically it took us two days longer than planned/hoped, but we got it done. I’ll post a couple of the songs here, even. How about it?
And now that this is done, I can finally focus my attention on other things. June tour of the west coast/southwest/northwest (not in that order, of course). I just visited the website of every venue in Humboldt County, for instance. Turns out most of them don’t look that cool. But now I know that, at least. And there are a couple that do, and they will be hearing from me shortly.
Once that is done, I shall turn my attention to booking an August swing through the midwest, including my native Michigan. One of the beauties of touring is that occasionally it allows me to go home more than once a year, that one time being my annual Christmas visit, which usually ends up being a bit of a whirlwind. And have you ever been to Michigan in the fall? (I know August isn’t exactly “the fall,” but this is a sidenote.) Michigan in the fall is one of best places you can be. Alaska in the summer, Michigan in the fall, and I’ll take Southern California in the winter now that I’m almost 30. Boring, I know, but that’s my list of desired seasonal residencies. And I can stay here in Utah in the spring. Spring here is nice.
Also, did I tell you we’re losing a band-member to real life? We are! But sometimes that’s how the proverbial cookie crumbles. And Kris is an awesome dude who is too smart to be in a silly band, but we’re still stupid, and we have stupid friends, and one or two of them is going to be stupid enough to join our band! I’m kind of excited about that. But we will miss Kris. He’s a good dude and I wish you all knew him.
So these two songs I’m posting. They will be on the EP we’re releasing in June. The first song is called “Barracudas”.
The second one is called “Television Zoo” and has some clarinets/flutes/etc played by a Seattle-ite named Hans. This posting of “Television Zoo” marks its first ever public appearance; we’ll see how it goes.
So let us call this progress. Two songs make a public appearance, and soon there will be others to join them so they don’t feel so lonely. The internet is a big place for two songs to be wandering alone w/out the rest of their crew. So I suppose we’d better hurry.
P.S. Last week, I saw Here We Go Magic play for the second time in my life. The first time I saw them it was one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. The second one lived it up to my intimidating memory. Cool cool band. I want you to know this.
P.P.S. Utah Jazz, game five, right now. Going for the close-out. I’m off to watch. Be well.
