Ahh. The birds are chirping, lawn mowers mowing, and the sun is shining. Summer is quickly approaching and I could not be more eager for its arrival. Thinking about everything that has transpired this past year since I moved to West Lafayette, it seems like it’s been a really long year, even though it actually went by really fast. As a band without much history before last summer, we definitely got a lot accomplished. We got a full band together, recorded and released an EP, and played shows just about every weekend for the past four months. There were also a lot of tribulations along the way that I’d just as soon forget. There’s still tons of work left be done, roads yet untraveled, faces yet to be seen, and songs yet to be written. The future is exciting, but for now I’m going to try and live in the moment and enjoy where I am along this journey. But first, a quick look into a short-term plans for this summer:
I’ll be moving back to Indianapolis for a couple of months since our lease is expiring at the end of the month and the one for our new house doesn’t start until August (oh yes, there’ll be a Cribs video for it). We will be writing and recording new demos as much as possible the rest of this month and into June. Chris will be in Montana all of July for a geology field trip mandatory for his graduation. Ryan will head home to The Garden State during this intermission of live performances. Nate is going to be hard at work at his day job, making some coin and being awesome. August will then soon be upon us, classes will resume for Chris’ last semester of college, live shows will resume, and natural order will be restored. We may make a visit to lovely Los Angeles during these coming months, but only time will tell.
With that, I will leave you with some parting words of wisdom: work hard, play hard, party hard, and always reach for the sun.
P.S. Do yourself a favor and listen to Makeout Party. An amazing indie rock band from South Jersey.
