Hello, internet! I love you.
I spent the last ten days in my home state of Michigan w/ parents, siblings, in-laws, nephews, niece. Do yourself a favor and google image “Pictured Rocks,” and you’ll how see how amazing northern Michigan is. That’s where I was for a good part of the trip. Camping, hiking, pontoon boating, shipwreck searching. While doing the last of those two activities a storm rolled in and frightened me into thinking we’d be a tiny forgettable version of the Edmund Fitzgerald. But as fate would have it, we survived! A surprise ending to me, but not to the rational mind or the reader (you).
After those adventures we worked our way down the coast of Michigan; stops at Mackinac Island, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City. I know those landmarks are meaningless to most people but that’s part of what makes them so fantastic. It’s kind of like being able to say you were a fan of these guys before they were huge or something.
Anyway. I’m back in Salt Lake City now, as of yesterday. The picture above is the cover art for the EP we release next week called “Young Wives.” Our friend Sarah Martin built that. The floor of the stage is made out of coffee stir sticks and she build the ladder out of balsa wood and painted it silver. She’s crazy and I love her for that. So this new EP. Six songs. A couple days after the release we will go to the following places:
June 16: Scottsdale, AZ (The Rogue)
June 17: Sedona, AZ (Olde Sedona)
June 18: Flagstaff, AZ (Hotel Monte Vista)
June 19: Sedona, AZ (Studio Live)
June 22: San Diego, CA (Tin Can Alehouse)
June 23: Los Angeles, CA (Silverlake Lounge)
June 26: Redding, CA (The Eatery)
June 27: San Francisco, CA (Hotel Utah)
June 29: Portland, OR (Doug Fir Lounge)
July 3: Seattle, WA (Darrell’s Tavern)
July 9: Seattle, WA (Comet Taverm)
The thinning of dates after June 29 represents time that will be spent in Seattle wrapping up tracking for the follow up to “Young Wives,” a full-length called “Teeth” that will be released in the fall. And we’ll be doing all of this w/ two new band members. Jamie Timm of Band of Annuals fame and Josh McCafferty. We had a marathon rehearsal last night until the wee hours of the morning and it got me really excited for the next few months. Sooo if you live in one of the aforementioned towns you should come mingle w/ us and listen to us try to play songs that we wrote.
Going to see our friend David play tonight w/ the Fruit Bats and Vetiver. Damien Jurado tomorrow night, also. Summer time is here! Kind of. But close enough!
Let’s us be friendlier. Let my blogging be better. Let the sun keep shining. Those are my prayers of the day.
